Assistive Technology Talk:
Tuesday 14th September 2010
Time 7.15pm - 9.00pm
Did you know that this year the highest number, ever, of children with disabilities and S.L.D.’s have progressed into Second Level Education?
And did you know that this year a number of students with Dyspraxia will take up places to study at the University of Limerick?
One of the ways to ensure that your child is among this number is through the use of Assistive Technology.
AT is used to support independent learning.
For those who are unsure what Assistive Technology (AT) is, the most commonly used definition is the American definition: "Any item, piece of equipment or product system whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customised that is used to increase, maintain or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities"
Put simply, Assistive technology is any device, piece of equipment, system or piece of software which assists users.
Our guest speakers tonight will inform us what Assistive Technology (AT) equipment and software are available for a child with Dyspraxia to use in Primary and Secondary School. This will be followed by a question and answer session, and an opportunity to join other parents in a “Try and See” visit to the Assistive Technology Assessment Centre (ATAC) where you can SEE and TRY the AT available at this facility (Date T.B.C.).
