Research Project

For Who : Children between ages 6 to 12

The research project will consist of .

• Testing the effects of 6 horse riding sessions of a 30 minute duration, on 40 childrenbetween the ages of 6 to 12, over a period of 6 weeks.

 

• Testing the effects of 2 audio/visual equine perception screenings of a 30 minute duration, on the same 40 children,over a period of 2 weeks.

 

• The children will be selected and contacted by Dyspraxia Association Ireland. They will not have undergone any previous horse riding. Some of these children may already be on a waiting list to receive therapeutic horse riding lessons.

 

• The children will be fully assessed prior to and at the end of the entiretesting 8 week period. This will consist of: 1) a physical test; children will walk on walkway mat which will assess gait variability and 2) Mood and Feelings Questionnaire; children will be asked to fill in a simple mood arousal questionnaire

 

• Children will also be tested via the Walkway mat alone,before and after each horse riding and audio visual session.

 

• The participants in the research are solely the children.

 

• A team of certified professionals will assist the researcher in carrying out the entire test.

 

 

 

Please note: Insurance for the riding sessions is covered under the Public and Employers Liabilityinsurance policy of FettercairnYouth Horse Project. This has been approved by the Centre Manager of the organization, LaurenceMcFerran.
